Hello!!!! I would like to share with all of you the lyrics of two songs wich make me feel more positive and optmistic. I hope you enjoy them and if you want to watch the videos go to the links below.

Shelly thanks for be the captain of this boat!! you really know how to handle it!!!

Affirmation
(Savage Garden)

I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye.

Excellent listening sites!!

Hello my favourite class,

Here are two websites that are not only interesting, but lots of fun. They both have recorded listening texts, both by native English speakers and by non-native English speakers.

or if that doesn't work, try

This is the one that we did an activity from on Wednesday. Lots of fun interviews!

This is called the Speech Accent Archive. It's an ongoing project run by George Mason University to record and compare/contrast different people's accents as they read the same paragraph. There are over 1000 recordings from all over the world and some are very interesting indeed! You may be interested in the two recordings from Mexico. Then try reading aloud the paragraph yourself. If you have the technology, why not record it and post it on the blog?! Hmmm ... maybe I should do that myself ...

You can also find a native speaker's accent that you really like, and practice pronouncing the paragraph in that same way. There are so many things you can do!

The only thing is that all the recordings of accents are recorded in Quicktime. So make sure you have Quicktime installed on your computer, otherwise you won't hear a thing!

Enjoy!

Bachelorette

Hi everyone!
Well, this is my first time writing here and I would like to share a song with all of you, the song is "Bachelorette" by Björk, maybe nobody likes Björk, is some progresive rock, and in my opinion she has the most beautiful voice of our times, even I can say that I would like to be her husband jus for wake up everymorning and listen to her (haaaaa jejeje).
There are many words that I don't know so Shelly, what if we listen this song in class and try to understand it. I think this girl was high when she wrote this song but I really like it.
Here are the lyrics.

I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotised by the Whirl
Drink me, make me feel real
Wet your beak in the stream
Game we're playing is life
Love is a two way dream
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a path of cinders
Burning under your feet
You're the one who walks me
I'm your one way street
I'm a whisper in water
Secret for you to hear
You are the one who grows distant
When I beckon you near
Leave me now, return tonight
The tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You're the intruder hand
I'm the branch that you break.

Thak you, here is the link for the video by the way http://www.tu.tv/videos/bjork-bachelorette. See you.

Why did the chicken cross the road??

Hello my dear class,

You may have heard the joke, "Why did the chicken cross the road?"
The not-very-funny answer is, "To get to the other side."

But if you would like to read some much funnier answers by famous people, have a look at the link in the title!

You may not know all the names but I'm sure there are some you do recognise. I particularly like the answers by Grandpa, John Lennon, Agent Mulder and Colonel Sanders (the old man from KFC)!!

Which one is YOUR favourite??

Precious

Hello there!!!!!!

Shelley I apologize for not writing before, but my career is very difficult.

I'd like to share with you a great song of the English group Depeche Mode, they are my favorite band.
The song is called Precious, I hope you enjoy it!!!!!!

Precious and fragile things
Need special handling
My God what have we done to you?
We always try to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put you through...
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
Angels with silver wings
Shouldn't know suffering
I wish I could take the pain for you
If God has a master plan
That only he understands
I hope it's your eyes he's seeing through
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
I pray you learn to trust
Have faith in both of us
And keep room in your heart for two
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
I really love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi 613 class!

My apologies for not to write before. I´m so happy with the class, it is true that the hour is not the best, but I´m learning! And I hope you notice my excitement.

I felt stuck with the English, but a couple of weeks ago I was reading a nice interview to a member of Keane –an English band- and I found a word: bitter. Suddenly a light came to my head! I remembered the first song we heard (“Knockbands in Halifax” ) and this word means the same in both texts. I really enjoy learning words that people use every day, it make easier talk with foreign people.

Here is the link for the interview, if you want to read it http://thequietus.com/articles/01229-chuffing-heck-it-s-tim-rice-oxley-of-keane-on-the-night-train-to-berlin
At the end I had a nice image of Berlin and most of all about travel in train. I would like to do it some time.
Hi everyone:

This is the second time I write.
I loved wednesday class because the funny images before the news articles were a good idea.
Friday class, I liked the activity of the book that talked about the origens of "bless you" and all that stuff.

See you next wednesday.

Listening strategies

Hello everybody!

I hope you enjoyed the class on listening strategies on Monday and that it was helpful for you to consider which ones you use, which ones you're interested in using in the future, and which ones don't work for you.

Was it helpful for you?
Let me know!

Have a great day!

A couple of verses

Hello, everybody!

When I was younger I read these verses in a tale by R. Kipling:

"Only those who brave its dangers,
Comprehend its mystery"
(talking about the sea)

I think life is very similar to the sea, but it's often difficult to decide whether a risk is really worth being faced, and sometimes we are unable to act or think properly... I hope someone can find them interesting.

Hi everyone, Hi Shelley!! I´m Roberto Parra and i´m very glad to write for the first time in the class´s blog. It´s a little late for me because i´m in the work and doing some homework, but all i have to say is that i´ve been enjoying the english class so much, ´cause i hadn´t had a foreign teacher in my short life, haha!! I think it´s my time to improve my listening and talking in English, which are the weak aspects of my English level; and also is the time to perfectionate my writing and my reading. Now, for finish my first comment, i'd wish to share a phrase for all of you...
"Remember that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing" - Anon
Well, if anyone wants to share an opinion of this, i will be reading your comments.
Now is the time to leave this place. Shelley, i´m very grateful for your invitation =)
Farewell then, we will meet again!!!

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Hello again!!!
(these are my corrections) I expect that I improve my blog and not the opposite.

At this time I write for telling you that I have already read an English book!!

Yes it is!!, the last saturday, on february 21st my sister called me and invited me to go to "Feria del libro" at "Palacio de Minería" and we spent all the envening there. My sister bought many novels and I bought an english to english dictionary and of course one book, its title: "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", I chose it because I haven´t read it, I just have seen a little part of the story in t.v. as a cartoon (like tweety bird, do you remember?), and a few movies.

I really enjoy it!!

What can I share you? well, I can say that the book (everybody know that is about a chemical mixture that change a person into another one whose is evil) makes me think about human nature, we aren´t happy with our personality we ever wish to be another one, perhaps more intelligent, and less shy, or more beauty; but what happend if you get your dreams to become real?, what happend if that thing that you really wish becomes a great problem?.

Think about it!!

Be careful things that you ask for!!
